Webster Alert: The Webster Groves campus will be closed both Saturday, Jan. 24, and Sunday, Jan. 25, due to dangerously cold weather and potentially heavy snowfall.

Wind chills as low as –15 Fahrenheit are predicted for Saturday and –10 on Sunday, which could quickly cause frostbite and hypothermia for anyone outdoors for more than 10 minutes. Other concerns include burst water pipes, icy sidewalks and roadways, and power outages. Potential snowfall of 5 to 10 inches this weekend – the bulk is expected Sunday - will further complicate the situation.

The Emerson Library and University Center will be closed Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s basketball games have already been cancelled, and the Friday-Saturday debate tournament has been moved to a virtual environment. All Fine Arts events for Saturday and Sunday, including the Community Music School concerts, have also been cancelled. Marletto’s will remain open during brunch and dinner hours on both days for students who live on campus.

The University will continue to monitor weather and road conditions as well as the progress of snow removal crews to determine if the campus will switch to remote work on Monday or have a late start. We will send a status message late Sunday afternoon about Monday’s campus status, along with additional messages as needed.

All employees should take steps, such as bringing their work laptops home on Friday, to ensure they can work from home on Monday morning in case the campus remains closed. All on-campus students and staff should remember to wear heavy coats, gloves, and hats when going outside, even for a few minutes. Please consider restricting all travel this weekend and staying indoors as much as possible.
